I really enjoy your site! Ive had a natural for two years, and at first it was cute to rock the short fro, but know it is growing out. Is there anyway I can show off the length of my 4A hair( without a press )? I definetly would appreciate tips on how to maintain your hair, I love the ponytail look you have, but I can never get my hair to "relax" ( no pun intended) like that. Im basically looking for a good conditioner and styling agent. Any suggestions for a college ( read: busy with school work dont have time to do my hair, but will make time if it is worth it) student. Thank you in advance!

Minnow-Thanks!!! I will email you!

I love this style on you. I am about to embrace the freedom of my natural hair texture. How long have you been natural and what were some of your techniques (if you had to go from permed to natural)?

Congrats on your decision to go natural! The first thing I would suggest is to read all you can about natural hair. try nappturality.com and naturallynappy.com. You can go with a TWA or transition with twists, braids, and other styles.
Good luck on your journey!

Hey Toya, how was this style achieved? It looks like a twist out but I can't tell and I want to duplicate it this weeknd :-). Very nice

Thanks cocoa! I cornrowed the frontand the back was going to be a braid out, but after I unravelled it all, I realized it was too damp and I twisted it. What you see in the pic is a result of my crazy coils and a twisted out braid out, LOL :)

Great hair... I've seen most of the pictures you've posted and I'm loving them all!

I wear my hair natural too, but I've been treating it badly. I slick it bad (more like shellac) with a styling gel and put it in a ponytail. The waves (suppressed naps) are enough to make you seasick, but I don't want to continue putting that product in my hair anymore.

After a good shampoo and conditioner, I love my spiraling naps, but I work in a very conservative company (Boeing) in a very conservative, small town, so I can't wear it out during the work week. I prefer to comb it back into a bun or ponytail, anything else will be too much for these people to handle.

Do you know of a styling product (preferrably Black-owned) that will give me a similar look to the styling gel -- lotsa' deep waves -- without the hardness and without drying it out?

Hey Loren,

Thank you for the compliments and thank you for checking me out. I also work in a very conservative environment, so I understande where you are coming from, but when I got up the courage to finally wear my puff, my superiors and subordinates alike embraced the look and my decision to be me. Anyway, to keep the wavy look, I mix a homade pomade http://blackmarketproducts.com/ with ic frizz buster gel and wrap with a scarf immediately. Salon selectives Control'd Substance is also nice.

I think I might have to steal this one!

Girl, help yourself, just be sure to post pics!

I really like this hairstyle. Whenever i wear my hair out, I don't have as much shine. How do you accomplish this look?

Hey Sasha, some of this look is from the camera flash the rest is most likely b/c I had hot oil in my hair. I normally have a nice sheen, but not true high "shine". Thank you for the compliment and thanks for checking me out! HTH!

How did you make the bun?

After cornrowing the front, I pulled the cornrows and back into a ponytail and plaited it. I wrapped the plait around itself and wrapped it with a black pantyhose leg ;O)

That is gorgeous. I am getting getting one idea after another!

Thank you! I went out for a night on the town with this style and had a great time. No worries about sweat or rain!

Hi. This is your hair correct? I ask only because I would like to try this style. My hair is about 6 inches in length. Do you think this is enough for this style?

Adrienne

Adrienne, that is my own hair in the pic. My hair is about 12-15 inches, but it is thinnish. The only part that you may not be able to duplicate with six inches is the "crown". BUT, if you have thick hair, you should be fine. Good luck and thanks for stopping by. :)

You are so talented! You must have a billion different ways that you wear your hair! This one is pretty.

Thanks D!, this was actually a day when I couldnt get my hair to do anything...Pulled it back and this was the result!

Thanks Lisa!

Gosh that is pretty! I can't wait to be able to wear my hair in cherokee braids with my own hair. I think it's the perfect summer 'do. Let's see at the rate I'm growing I should be there in about 1 1/2 yrs.

I love this style b'c it lasts and I can easily spray my scalp. Thank you!

I love your hair-I swear I have GOT to learn hw to cornrow!!

Gin-If you can braid or plait, you can cornrow. It just takes practice. Thank you for the compliment! :)

Guest Gin wrote: Monday, April 22, 2002 - 8:36 PM

I see myself in your hair!!! This is the exact same thing my hair does! I try to tell my friends that see it all shrunken that my hair is twice as long when I blow it dry-but they don't quite believe me. So thanks for showing the pic!!

Gin-I call myself the queen of shrinkage! :)

Guest Shay wrote: Sunday, April 14, 2002 - 6:23 PM

I had to smile when I saw this pic! This reminds me sooooo much of my hair. I'm glad I'm not alone. Smile!

I know...I call it the mystery of the great shrinking hair :)

I really love your length and you carry yourself beautifully. I was just wodering how long you have had your hair natural. I've been natural for about 4 months and I'm still not achieving the length that other napptural sistahs are having. Maybe I just gotta have patience. I know it will be worth the wait. ;-)

Hey sweetie: Thank you for the compliments...Be patient, your natural hair will not disappoint you. My three year natural anniversary is this month! Good luck!

Thank you for sharing this picture. It does give me an idea of what I need to do the next time for my twists.

Glad to help!

The transition is not complete until you have learned to love your naps...
